The woman behind the journal
A chapter still being written.
I am Dorcus Odidi, the woman behind Life in the Middle Years. After years working in education and learner support, I have taken a career break to explore what the next chapter could look like.
This journal is for women in their forties and beyond who are thinking about careers, homes and lives differently. I write about learning, creating something of my own and finding beauty in the everyday.
I partner with brands I would genuinely use and recommend, with room for honest stories rather than a polished version of a life already finished.

Newbiggin by the Lake

I am developing Newbiggin by the Lake, a homestead near Lake Victoria, while living in Britain. It brings together land, gardening, a hope for more sustainable living and plans for a place to welcome guests.
The journal follows the questions as well as the possibilities: buying land in Kenya, managing a project from a distance and gradually shaping a different kind of home.
I did not want to wait until everything was finished before I started sharing it.
Guest accommodation and lakeside retreats remain future plans, not stays available to book. Dated build records and the personal land-buying account are still to come.
