The Lake Victoria homestead
Land, a garden and a place to welcome people. A different chapter, taking shape between Britain and Kenya.

The reason for the place
Why the lakeside?
This homestead brings together several things I want to explore: gardening, sustainable living and creating accommodation where people can feel welcome.
The lakeside is the setting for that vision. The fuller story of how I chose this particular piece of land, and what drew me to it, is still to come.
I did not want to wait until everything was finished before I started sharing it.
Before the build
Buying land in Kenya
My own purchase story will sit here alongside the homestead diary. For now, these are general questions to discuss with an independent Kenyan advocate and a qualified surveyor before committing to land.
- 01
Ownership and the seller
Confirm the seller’s identity and authority to sell, investigate the title and any claims or restrictions, and obtain professional advice about your eligibility to own the land.
- 02
The land on the ground
Check the surveyed boundaries, legal access, permitted use and available services. For a lakeside site, investigate flood risk, shoreline restrictions and environmental requirements.
- 03
The agreement and transfer
Have your advocate explain the contract, necessary consents, taxes, fees and registration process before signing or paying. Keep the supporting documents and confirm that the transfer is registered.
General information, not legal advice or a complete purchase checklist. Requirements depend on the buyer and the land. Confirm the current process with a Kenyan advocate and the relevant authorities.
From land to homestead
The build journey
The project in stages, rather than a dated construction record. Purchase dates, completed milestones and build photographs will be added when I share them.

The starting point
The land
A lakeside homestead near Lake Victoria in Kenya is the foundation of this journey. The purchase dates and personal land-buying account have not yet been shared.

In development
Shaping the homestead
I am developing the homestead while living in Britain, with all the practical questions that come with managing a project from a distance. Dated construction updates are still to come.
- 3
Part of the vision
The garden
Gardening and more sustainable living are part of what I hope to make room for here.

Looking ahead
A place to welcome guests
Guest accommodation is something I hope to build. It is a future plan, not a stay that is available to book.
